Jan 1st - The old year went out raining and the new year came in raining and kept raining about all day and part of the night.  It was a disagreeable day rainy over head and rainy under foot.  Frost nearly out of the ground.  Thermometer 36 degrees at noon + 36 degrees at nine P.M. Nathaniel N. Terry was here having come the day before and remained all night.  I was at home having been at the Sawmill during the day.  Family there.  Wheat .56 at Ann Arbor .60 at Geddes Mill.  62½ in Ypsilanti.  I paid $3.00 pr hundred for wheat.  Pork I bought (732 lbs) in the --- Flour 3.00 Shorts or bran $5.00 per ton.  Oak $6.00 Huron river very high. Jan 7th - It began to snow last night and the snow is about seven inches to day. The roads are rough and not hard. Staying very poor.
8th - This morning the thermometer is 10 degrees below Zero.
11th - Thermometer 14 degrees below Zero 56 degrees above Zero
12th - Joseph Rogers sold out his right in Geddes Mill to Hale Smith of Dunham.
15th - Wheat .60 in Ypsilanti .58 at Geddes mill
29th - Snowed 10 inches
30th - The news in Geddes Mills is that Joseph Rogers + Thomas, is brother, are going to build a flouring mill on Coburn Land opposite Orin White house. It is very doubtful. It's given up.
30th - A few of the neighbors visited John Geddes. Mr & Mrs Botsford, Mr & Mrs Hawks
29th - Dr. Blackwood was hung in effigy in Ypsilanti.
Feb 2nd - Myself and wife visited Grandmother.
18th - Wheat .75 per bu at Geddes Mill & Ann Arbor.
March 1st - Davis Leavenworth & wife took a room and commenced Boarding with John Geddes at the rate of 2.87 1/2 per week & they find wood.
March 2nd - James Hughs commenced boarding at 1.50. First meal at night.
March 2nd - Cordelia Ann Ward commenced work at $1.00 per week.
March 11th - Thermometer 7 degrees above, March 12th 4 degrees above, 13th 10 degrees above. March 14th - wound up good sledding
March 19th - John Geddes is 46 years of age today. Thermometer 20 degrees this morning & 47 degrees at noon. A pleasant day.
20th - A ---- today the river higher than for four years Kelloggs & Chubbs dam broke and their bridges injured.
24th - This day is appointed to try Dr. Thomas Blackwood for breach of Seventh Commandment by the Sessions of Ypsilanti M. Church
24th - Roads bad. Thermometer 16 degrees this morning. Frost going but not out of the ground yet.
April 1st - Frost nor out of the ground yet and many snow banks about. Wheat .75
March 31st - Settled with Hale Smith & Dunham
April 16th - Wheat .83, April 18th thermometer 11 degrees above.
30th - After three days trial, Dr. Blackwood was acquitted of breach of Seventh Commandment. The session was divided. Post, Sage & Loomis for acquitting & Bacon & Geddes for condemning.
April 24th - Eliza Oakley commenced work on Sat.
18th - Finished reading the Bible by ----. Sixth time since married.
19th - Commenced reading the Bible by course.
April 9th - Planted a Amber Heart & Arch Duke Cherry tree
12th - Planted two English Cherry Trees. Got from Robert.
May 10th - Rev. Ira M. Wead - minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ypsilanti asked the Society of which he was Pastor for 17 years to unite with him in asking the Presby to dismiss him. The first vote was even. 22 votes on each side. The next and last vote 23 votes were for dismissing and 20.
May 15th - Wheat 1.00 per bu. In Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti
22nd - Wheat 1.12 ½
19th - The Dixboro millers absended at night. They were brothers of the name of Bell--- Englishmen. They plundered considerable.
10th - bought a cow of El-ira Coburn for $12.00
June 4th - My wife was weighed today. Weight 86 pounds
May 29th - Wheat 1.18 ¾ per bu in Ann Arbor
31st - Wheat $1.00 per bu.
June 9th - Wheat 1.37 per bu
10th - Rachel Geddes began to walk alone being two years & ten days old.
July 1st - Wheat $1.00 per bu
2nd - Went to Detroit. Paid and settled up with John Cryder & paid him $397
3rd - Bargained with John P. Cryder for the sawmill. Robt & John Geddes is to pay the first of Nov. next $600 for it.
7th - Water in the Huron River failed to day - The mills went in the afternoon.
16th - A heavy rain. A rainy harvest time
16th - bought Robt Geddes half of Sawmill gave about undivided half of the S. frac. Of S. T.& S. R. & E. for it. Half of Sawmill valued
21st - Robt & John Geddes received $100 of ----- Geddes on his father Samuel Geddes Mr. Robert rec. $63.75 & John $36.25
23rd - Flour is $3.50 per barrel in Detroit.
Aug 13th - Aunt Chloe and Jane came to differ and Jane has went to Lyons next day.
Aug 18th - Thermometer 40 degrees, wheat .80 in Ypsilanti.
24th - Commenced grinding New Wheat - but one run. Day time, Water silent.
31st - Wheat .70 to .75. But little coming in.
